What is Cognitive Rehab Therapy?

Cognitive Rehabilitation therapy is effective for individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury, stroke, or other cognitive impairment. Treatment focuses on restoring, compensating, and maintaining functional skills to safely complete activities of daily living and integrate into the community and/or workplace.

This treatment is comprised of tasks to regain lost cognitive skills after a neurological decline through repeated practice. The given exercises may target areas such as memory, attention, processing speed, executive functioning, and problem solving.

Compensatory therapy focuses on supporting function through strategies, tools, or environmental modifications when full when full restoration isn’t possible or recovery is gradual. Treatment includes the use of memory techniques, external aids, AAC, and other communication supports.
