Social/Pragmatic Skills Development

Social and pragmatic skills form the foundation of how we use language to interact, connect, and communicate effectively in real-world situations. In speech and language therapy, targeting these skills helps individuals communicate and connect with others successfully.

Montclair Speech Therapy offers specialized programs targeting social and pragmatic communication skills for children.

In this program, children are paired with a speech therapist and matched with another peer who have similar social goals. Together, they work on tasks while building friendships—and sometimes the best wins happen when they take the lead!

Peer-pair activities, such as combining skills to do a puzzle together, foster collaboration while teaching children to advocate for what they want. This program is all about fostering independence, teamwork, and confidence—one puzzle (or high-five) at a time.

This 4-week seasonal program was designed by our therapists to foster peer connections, confidence, and social communication through play-based activities. The program focuses on conversation rules, non-verbal communication, perspective-taking, storytelling, and adapting language to different listeners or social environments.
